HKSAR Security Office Urges Media: Stop False Reporting

Over the weekend, the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR met with heads of foreign news organizations in Hong Kong to address what it calls false and misleading reports about a major fire at Wang Fuk Court and the 2025 Legislative Council General Election. 🚨🔥

The office criticized recent foreign media coverage for:

  • Disregarding facts and distorting the HKSAR government's disaster relief efforts💧
  • Interfering with the election and fueling social division👇
  • Overlooking the suffering of HKSAR residents and misleading the international community🌏

It urged all foreign journalists to strictly comply with the Basic Law of the HKSAR, the national security law in Hong Kong, and local reporting regulations, upholding objectivity, fairness and accuracy in their coverage. 📰⚖️

The office also warned against fabricating or spreading false information and will continue to monitor relevant reports closely.

At the same time, it affirmed its support for the HKSAR government in protecting the legitimate reporting rights of foreign journalists and promised to provide necessary assistance for legal news coverage. 🤝

This reminder sends a clear message: fact-based reporting is essential to maintaining trust and solidarity in the HKSAR. Stay informed responsibly! ✨
