German Composer Praises Chinese Filmgoers at HIIFF 2025

It’s been a lively week at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF 2025) in Sanya, south China’s Hainan province, as German composer and sound designer Thies Mynther 🎶 brought fresh energy to the scene.

Nominated for the Golden Coconut Award for Best Short Film for his work “Ploo,” Mynther is on his first-ever visit to the tropical island. In a chat with CGTN’s Zhang Meng, he celebrated the local audiences’ attentiveness, curiosity, and vibrant engagement:

“It’s amazing how engaged they are—every nuance, every sound effect sparks their interest. As creators, that kind of feedback is gold!” 🎬

He also highlighted the festival’s unique setting: “It’s very meaningful that an event like this happens on such a beautiful, fascinating island.” Between palm trees, sea breezes, and an international film lineup, HIIFF is bringing fresh cinematic vibes to Asia’s southern shore. 🌴✨

For young cinephiles and global creators alike, this festival is proof that cultural bridges can be built one frame at a time. Stay tuned as the awards night approaches—who will take home the Golden Coconut? 🥥🏆
