The world No. 1 duo, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, kicked things off by defeating Alexis Lebrun and Jia Nan Yuan 11-7, 12-10, 11-5 in mixed doubles, giving the home side an early 3-0 lead.
Wang Manyu continued the momentum in women’s singles, sweeping past Prithika Pavade 11-9, 12-10, 11-2. “In the face of difficulties, we still need to stay focused and be patient to forge ahead,” she said.
France fought back when Felix Lebrun edged Liang Jingkun 6-11, 13-11, 11-7 in men’s singles, but the Lebrun brothers couldn’t stop the home team’s charge in the deciding men’s doubles. Wang Chuqin paired with Lin Shidong to seal the match 11-8.
