🏙️✨ Last Thursday, the HKSAR government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR co-hosted a Constitution Day seminar to boost public understanding of the country’s constitutional basis and the HKSAR’s role.
🕯️ To start, participants stood for a minute of silence for the victims of the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po, honoring those who lost their lives and reflecting on the importance of urban safety.
🎤 Chief Executive John Lee offered deep condolences to the families and pledged all-out disaster relief and support. He announced that an independent committee will review the incident, turning painful lessons into concrete measures to bolster city safety and drive institutional reform.
📜 Under the theme "The Constitution and the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation," speakers highlighted how the Constitution lays down the strongest rule-of-law safeguards and the institutional basis for establishing the HKSAR.
💬 "On the journey of national rejuvenation, Hong Kong is both a participant and a beneficiary," Lee said, calling on all sectors to unite and contribute to this great cause.
🤝 Liu Guangyuan, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, echoed these views, underscoring the Constitution’s legal foundation for Hong Kong’s integration into China’s national rejuvenation and its institutional strengths.
📅 With the Legislative Council election scheduled for December 7—just two days away—Liu noted that holding the vote as planned shows respect for the constitutional order and the rule of law, and provides strong support for social stability and post-tragedy recovery.
✨ Around 900 participants from business, academia, and civil society joined the seminar, reflecting widespread engagement with the Constitution’s role in shaping Hong Kong’s future within China’s national journey.
