China’s Shenzhou-21 Crew Gears Up for First Spacewalk

This week, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced that China’s Shenzhou-21 crew is gearing up for their first extravehicular activity (EVA)—a.k.a. spacewalk—since boarding the Tiangong space station. 🚀

On November 11, 2025, astronauts Zhang Lu, Wu Fei and Zhang Hongzhang docked with Tiangong. In the weeks that followed, they tackled a packed mission schedule:

  • Handover with their Shenzhou-20 predecessors
  • Maintenance, station checks and emergency supply drills 🛠️
  • Daily life support routines and health assessments ❤️
  • Full-system pressure tests and on-orbit robotic arm training 🤖
  • Ongoing space science experiments across various disciplines 🧪

They also welcomed the uncrewed Shenzhou-22 spacecraft, ran product-compatibility tests and sorted through fresh supplies sent from Earth. All systems are go: the station is running smoothly, and the crew is in great health.

Now, with the upcoming EVA, Zhang Lu, Wu Fei and Zhang Hongzhang will step out into the void for maintenance tasks and station upgrades. It’s a milestone moment that shows off human ingenuity at 400 km above our planet. Stay tuned for live updates—this cosmic adventure is just getting started! 🌌🧑‍🚀
