Last Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Johannesburg buzzed with excitement as around 200 guests gathered to celebrate the launch of the English edition of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" 📘✨.
Participants say the fifth volume showcases Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, offering key insights on China’s path to modernization—think poverty reduction, green growth, and tech innovation 🚀🌱.
South Africa and China, both driving forces in the Global South and core members of BRICS, pledged to work together on 10 partnership actions for advancing modernization, promote four major global initiatives, and boost China–Africa development. It's a team-up aiming to bring the dream of shared prosperity to life 🤝.
Maropene Ramokgopa, South African Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, praised the volume for providing a clear window into China’s approach to global challenges, from fighting poverty to aligning the Belt and Road Initiative with South Africa’s National Development Plan 2030 🌐.
National Assembly House Chairperson Cedric Frolick added that the volume lays out China’s future vision and foreign policy priorities, from putting people first and pursuing green development to building a community with a shared future for humanity. These ideas offer valuable playbooks for countries leveling up their own modernization journeys 📖✨.
Guests also dove into discussions on sharing modernization experiences, global governance in the Global South, and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. Copies of the English edition were presented to attendees, symbolizing a fresh chapter in China–South Africa ties.
The event was co-hosted by the State Council Information Office of China, China International Communications Group, and the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, underlining a growing partnership and mutual commitment to global development goals.
