China urges Japan to retract Taiwan remarks and respect one-China principle

🌟 Here's the latest diplomatic update!

At a press conference on Wednesday, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, fired back at Japan over remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Taiwan.

🗣️ "The Japanese side must stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and adhere to the one-China principle and its political commitments to China via concrete actions," Zhang declared, urging Japan to deeply reflect on its past and retract Takaichi's comments.

Zhang Han warned those remarks could embolden "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and potentially undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

📅 2025 marks two key anniversaries:

  • 80 years since the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the restoration of Taiwan to China 🔔
  • 82 years since the Cairo Declaration, which – alongside other documents with international legal force – affirms China's sovereignty over Taiwan 🌐

"It is Japan's obligation to comply with the provisions of these documents under international law," Zhang emphasized.

He concluded: "Taiwan is China's Taiwan. It has never been, and will never be, a country. People on both sides of the Strait are all Chinese, and the future of Taiwan can only be jointly decided by the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, with Taiwan compatriots included."

With tensions simmering, all eyes are on whether Japan will heed Beijing's call and put the one-China principle into practice 🤝.
