UNAMA: 1.5M Afghans Living with Conflict-Related Disabilities

On December 3, 2025, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) revealed that an estimated 1.5 million Afghans are currently living with significant disabilities, most caused by decades of conflict and unexploded ordnance. 😔

Children bear a disproportionately heavy burden: young lives forever changed by hidden dangers in their own neighborhoods. Afghanistan remains one of the world’s most mine-contaminated countries, with over 1,150 square km of territory still tainted by explosive remnants of war. 💣

In just the past two weeks, separate blasts in Kandahar, Uruzgan and Balkh provinces have taken seven lives—including children—and injured nine more, underscoring the daily risks faced by communities.

UNAMA is calling for accelerated demining efforts and expanded rehabilitation services for survivors. As teams race against time, international support and local awareness are vital to turn contaminated zones into safe spaces. 🌍🤝

For young professionals, students and global citizens who care about human rights and social justice, these figures are a poignant reminder that the scars of war last long after the last shot is fired. 📚✊
