Earlier this week (December 1–3), Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Chinese mainland Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, led a delegation to Vientiane, Laos. The visit coincided with the vibrant celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. 🎉

In Vientiane, Wang met with key leaders: Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and Lao president; Sonexay Siphandone, Lao prime minister; Saysomphone Phomvihane, president of the National Assembly; and Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, president of the Central Committee of the LFND. Each meeting focused on boosting strategic cooperation and mutual support. 🤝

With Thongloun, Wang reaffirmed China’s willingness to deepen exchanges on governance experience, support each other on core interests such as the Taiwan question, and build a high-standard, high-quality, high-level Laos–China community with a shared future. Thongloun praised the strongest-ever bilateral ties and pledged Laos’s firm adherence to the one-China principle.

During talks with Prime Minister Sonexay, both sides agreed to advance comprehensive strategic coordination and set an example for regional cooperation. With Saysomphone, Wang highlighted the upcoming 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026 as an opportunity to deepen practical cooperation. Saysomphone welcomed stronger legislative exchanges to boost friendship and development.

In discussions with Sinlavong, the CPPCC and the LFND agreed to amplify people-to-people exchanges and tell the story of Laos–China friendship, supporting joint socialist modernization. 🇱🇦🇨🇳
