V&A Hosts UK’s First Major Chinese Contemporary Craft Show

Get ready to dive into modern Chinese artistry at London’s V&A! 🎨✨

Dimensions is the UK’s first major showcase of Chinese contemporary studio craft, uniting 80 bold works that blend tradition with today's creative spark. From textiles to ceramics, each piece takes you on a journey through past and present.

Curated by Li Xiaoxin, who spent five years exploring the Chinese mainland, Dimensions challenges old stereotypes:

“I want people to come into the museum, not just thinking of China as a culture that is only in the distant past and that China's objects were only brilliant in the Yuan, Ming and Qing periods,” she explains. “I want them to see the latest developments, the very creative works that have kept coming out of China in the last decades or so.”

One standout is the textile sculpture She’s Bestowed Love by LOEWE Collection Craft Prize winner Fanglu Lin. Inspired by Bai ethnic minority tie-dye traditions from Yunnan, the piece honors women’s hidden sacrifices and boundless love. 💖

“This one is about love, like women's warmest love and blood,” Fanglu Lin shared. “My memory is my family. My mom, my grandma, they gave me a lot of love for me.”

The exhibition also highlights ceramics, a craft reborn since the 1980s as a vibrant medium for self-expression among Chinese artists. Each work reveals how creators are redefining their cultural heritage.

Don’t miss this vivid celebration of tradition and innovation—now on display at the V&A in South Kensington. It’s an inspiring look at the future of studio craft! 🌟
