Japanese PM Takaichi Urged to Retract Taiwan Remarks Amid Economic Risks

Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi faced strong backlash over her remarks on the island of Taiwan, which critics say are erroneous and risky for regional stability 🌏.

Keiko Itokazu, former member of Japan's House of Councillors, argued that these comments interfere in the Chinese mainland's internal affairs and undermine peace. She insisted that Takaichi should retract the statements as soon as possible.

Itokazu also warned of economic fallout: China is Japan's largest trading partner, and a drop in visitors, cruises, and flights from the mainland has already hit retail and tourism hard 💸. A prolonged downturn could spell serious trouble for Japan’s economy.

Itokazu emphasized that the prime minister’s real job is to keep trade and people-to-people exchanges strong through friendly ties with the Chinese mainland, creating a win-win situation. Without an apology, Japan’s economy could be at risk 🤝.
