Seven connected buildings in the Tai Po district were engulfed in flames last week, resulting in at least 55 confirmed fatalities and 76 injuries. Fire crews, paramedics and volunteers worked around the clock to contain the fire and assist residents.
"Thanks to the swift action of our emergency teams and the cooperation of residents, the fire is now fully contained," John Lee said. The Hong Kong SAR government has set up temporary shelters and will provide over 1,800 beds for those affected.
