📽️ On Friday, Nov 21, Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted powerful footage on X showing Japan's surrender in 1945, urging Tokyo to learn from history and lean on the pacifist articles of its own Constitution.
In the post, officials wrote: "If Tokyo wishes to avoid repeating the mistakes of 1945, it should heed the lessons of history and rely on the still-valid pacifist provisions of its own Constitution."
Earlier, on Thursday, Nov 20, spokesperson Maria Zakharova slammed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's comments on the island of Taiwan. She argued Japan has yet to fully recognize the outcomes of World War II, even 80 years later.
"Eighty years have passed, and Japan still refuses to recognize the results of World War II, as enshrined in international law," Zakharova said at her daily press briefing.
She also pointed to a growing trend among some nations: publicly supporting the one-China principle while simultaneously ramping up military ties with Taiwan authorities. "They supply weapons to the island of Taiwan, strengthen military and political contact, promote separatist sentiments and use the island as a tool of pressure and geopolitical containment of the People's Republic of China," she added.
This exchange highlights rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait and raises fresh questions about how historical memory shapes modern defense policies. ✨
What do you think? Can history guide more peaceful strategies today? 🤔
