🌏 In a firm weekly briefing on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the Chinese mainland's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, warned Japan not to cross the line on the Taiwan question.
Her comments came after several senior Japanese officials said that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent remarks on Taiwan did not change Tokyo's existing stance, and that Japan had no intention to retract them.
Mao urged Japan to adhere to the one-China principle and stick to the four political documents agreed upon by the two nations, rather than blur key concepts or try to reverse history.
She stressed that the restoration of Taiwan to China was a result of victory in World War Two and a vital part of the post-war order. 'No one has the right to change it,' Mao said.
If Tokyo truly means its position remains unchanged, Mao added, then its leader should avoid linking a 'survival-threatening situation' to the Taiwan question. Simply saying 'position unchanged' won’t ease China's concerns.
Mao Ning called on Japan to take these demands seriously, retract the erroneous remarks, and turn its promises into real action. 🔍
