5G-A Robot Kuavo Lights Up Shenzhen Torch Relay

Earlier this November, Kuavo, the world's first humanoid robot equipped with 5G-Advanced, sprinted into history at the torch relay of the 15th National Games in Shenzhen, the Chinese mainland's sports extravaganza. 🤖🔥

Cao Yu, partner at Shenzhen-based Lejoin Intelligence, told Sports Scene's Mike Fox that a patchwork of tech partnerships and non-stop tuning made this moment possible. 'In collaboration with the Harbin Institute of Technology and the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence, we optimized the robot's running motion control algorithm,' he explained, boosting disturbance resistance and tackling complex terrain.

Stability was key: Kuavo carried a 1.6-kilogram torch and still ran with natural grace. A blazing-fast 5G-Advanced link streamed HD first-person footage back to technicians in real time, letting them fine-tune controls from afar without chasing the robot on foot. That's a major win for safety and spectacle during a public event.

While Kuavo is already a mass-produced model with solid baseline performance, Cao revealed that the team kept refining every system to ensure a flawless relay. 'We kept optimizing various aspects of the robot to make sure everything on site would run without any errors,' he said.

The name Kuavo draws from the legend of Kua Fu Chasing the Sun. 'Our goal was to make the robot walk and run first, then tackle more ambitious feats—just like Kua Fu's relentless pursuit,' Cao added.

Cao also highlighted how Kuavo's torch relay debut showcases the Chinese mainland's tech innovation, channeling advancements in robotics and network tech into everyday life. From sports arenas to new horizons, this robot is just getting started. 🚀
