The 2025 Guangzhou International Light Festival kicked off this past Sunday (Nov 16) in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and trust us, it was an instant social media sensation. Highlighting the night sky was the triumphant return of the giant floating Aoyu fish lantern 🐟 – the same viral star from the 15th National Games opening ceremony on Nov 9.
For the first time ever, Canton Tower, the East Tower and the West Tower lit up together in perfect harmony, painting the skyline with an epic fusion of traditional Lingnan motifs and cutting-edge light tech. Imagine neon waves swirling around an enormous fish-shaped lantern – that's the vibe!
"Seeing all three towers synchronize with the Aoyu lantern was like stepping into the future of festival art," said a local photographer, posting her shots online with the hashtag #AoyuVibes. The installation not only celebrates Lingnan culture's craftsmanship but also shows how modern tech can bring ancient stories to life.
As the festival runs through December, travelers and culture buffs can look forward to interactive light shows, art workshops and pop-up performances across the city. Whether you're in town for business, study or just exploring, this festival is lighting up Guangzhou in the coolest way possible. 💡✨
