China Poised to Resume Exchanges with Canada After Gyeongju Talks

China and Canada Look to Reboot Ties 🎉

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on China and Canada to work through their legitimate concerns and speed up the resumption of exchanges and cooperation across multiple fields.

The appeal came during a phone call with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, who requested the discussion. Wang noted that just over a week ago, 'President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Mark Carney held a pivotal meeting in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, reaching important consensus and setting strategic guidance for improving China-Canada relations.' That summit marked a turning point after seven years of setbacks.

Wang emphasized that following through on the leaders’ consensus is now at the top of the bilateral agenda. China is ready to strengthen communication with Canada and take effective steps to accelerate the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Both diplomatic and commercial departments should enhance coordination, Wang added, addressing each other's legitimate concerns through mutual understanding, accommodation, and friendly consultations. The goal? A healthy, steady, and sustainable development of China-Canada ties.

For her part, Anand agreed that the Gyeongju talks opened a new chapter. She said Canada is eager to deepen dialogue with China at all levels, revitalize their strategic partnership, and secure more wins in trade, consular affairs, drug control, and energy.

With momentum building from the recent summit, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of renewed collaboration between Asia’s giant and North America’s second-largest country. Stay tuned as these diplomatic talks open doors for global travelers, students, and entrepreneurs alike! 🌏🤝
