Climate Change Takes Center Stage at COP30 in Brazil

🌎 The COP30 summit has officially kicked off in Belem, Brazil! This 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference brings together delegations from over 190 countries and regions to put climate change back at the heart of global priorities.

At the opening ceremony, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev gave a powerful shout-out to participants, urging everyone to deliver on last year's goals set in Baku. Meanwhile, COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago thanked Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for the appointment and laid down the gauntlet: COP30 must deliver real solutions.

'Science, education, culture are the path that we have to follow,' Correa do Lago stressed. He reminded us that, despite recent hurdles, living conditions around the world can—and must—keep improving. His message? Multilateralism is our secret weapon in the climate fight.

Over the next two weeks, topics like climate adaptation, a just transition, and implementing the Paris Agreement's global balance will light up the agenda. And yes, this year marks the Paris Agreement's 10th anniversary—time for fresh Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)!

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, 'Every fraction of a degree means more hunger, displacement, and loss – especially for those least responsible.' He added: 'We need to move faster – and move together. This COP must ignite a decade of acceleration and delivery.'

Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland is hosting a series of activities at the China Corner, sharing its climate policies and know-how. The conference runs through November 21, and you can expect plenty of updates on the hottest climate topics.

Stay tuned for more fresh, youth-focused news from COP30! Let’s make this decade the greenest yet. 🌱💪
