Migrant Boat Capsizes Near Tarutao: Death Toll Rises to 21

🚨 A tragic maritime disaster unfolded near Thailand's picturesque Tarutao Island, as a boat carrying around 70 undocumented migrants capsized four days ago. Malaysia and Thailand have now recovered at least 21 bodies, and search teams are still on the hunt for survivors. 💔

Romli Mustafa, director of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in Kedah and Perlis, said rescuers found five more bodies on Monday, adding to the seven recovered over the weekend. He noted that Thai authorities have found nine bodies so far and no survivors in Thai waters.

The joint search-and-rescue operation kicked off immediately after the capsizing, with ships, helicopters and drones combing the waters around Tarutao Island. Despite the challenging weather, officials say they will keep the mission going for up to seven days, hoping to bring answers to families waiting back home.

This tragic event highlights the risks faced by migrants on dangerous sea routes. Many are fleeing economic hardship or political unrest, hoping for a fresh start. But the journey can turn deadly when overcrowded boats push past their limits.

As the region works to prevent future disasters, authorities urge people to seek safe and legal paths for migration. Our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones. Let us spread the word and push for stronger protections at sea. 🙏
