Chinese Mainland Fishing Vessel Capsizes Off South Korea: 2 Dead, 3 Missing

🚨 Early Sunday morning, a 98-tonne fishing vessel from the Chinese mainland capsized in international waters off Gageo Island, about 420 km southwest of Seoul. The South Korean coast guard reported that the incident occurred around 6:50 a.m., nearly 81 km from the island.

Of the 11 crew members aboard, six were pulled to safety by another fishing boat navigating nearby waters. These survivors are in stable condition with no major health issues. The consulate general of the Chinese mainland in Gwangju confirmed the report to Xinhua.

Tragically, two sailors were found in cardiac arrest and, despite rescue efforts by the South Korean coast guard, did not survive. At the time of reporting, three crew members remain missing. Search operations continue around the clock, with the South Korean coast guard working alongside a vessel from the Chinese mainland in hopes of finding the missing.

Incidents like this remind us of the perils faced by those who wander the high seas in search of a living. Families await any sign of news as joint rescue teams sift through the vast waters. 🌊

Stay tuned for updates as the search progresses and authorities work tirelessly to bring closure to loved ones.
