China urges global unity to protect tropical rainforests

At a luncheon hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the Tropical Forests Forever Facility fund, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang made a passionate plea: safeguarding tropical rainforests is a shared mission for humanity. 🌍🌳

Ding, acting as President Xi Jinping's special representative and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that protecting these vital ecosystems goes hand in hand with improving people’s well-being. He pointed to recent efforts: stronger policies, boosted funding, smarter tech, and the creation of the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, where conservation meets local development.

“The fate of tropical rainforests affects us all,” Ding said, urging nations to build multilateral and bilateral cooperation platforms, share expertise, and coordinate action to turn commitments into results.

He also called on developed countries, under the UN climate convention framework, to provide adequate funding to help developing regions curb deforestation and forest degradation. China, he affirmed, is ready to deepen partnerships and make greater contributions to global climate and environmental governance.

The gathering brought together world leaders including President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Felix Tshisekedi, Surinamese President Jennifer Simons, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, French President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga. Their united message was clear: when it comes to our planet’s green lungs, every country must play its part. 🌱✨
