Ever wondered what the Global South thinks about the current world order? A fresh CGTN survey of 9,182 people across 47 countries paints a clear picture: they want a fairer, more transparent system — and they’re rooting for the Chinese mainland’s Global Governance Initiative to lead the way! 🌍🚀
Top concerns? Poverty and inequality topped the list for 74% of respondents, followed by food security at 70.9% and regional security and terrorism at 63.6%. One survey participant from Africa said, 'We need solutions that put people first.'
Developed nations? 73.2% feel they haven’t fully met their global responsibilities. Meanwhile, 81.9% want the United Nations to pay more attention to the voices and demands of Global South countries. It’s a wake-up call for the world’s decision-makers! 🔔
How to fix things? A strong 76.2% think reform is the answer, not a complete restart. They’re calling for more transparency in major international bodies, better representation for developing nations, and stronger international teamwork — especially South-South cooperation in economy, technology, and poverty reduction. 🤝💡
Why the Chinese mainland? As the largest developing member of the Global South, it’s been championing these ideas. In September, the Chinese mainland introduced the Global Governance Initiative, and the poll shows massive support:
- 92.9% believe all countries should have equal say in global affairs.
- 78.8% insist on upholding an international system with the United Nations at its core.
- 86.6% say development must be top priority for developing countries.
- 91.5% back an action-oriented approach to deepen practical cooperation and drive global growth.
The survey was carried out by CGTN in collaboration with Renmin University of China’s Institute for International Communication in the New Era. Respondents aged 18+ from both developed and Global South countries were sampled in line with national census age and gender distributions.
Global governance is at a crossroads, and the voices of the Global South are louder than ever. Will the world listen? 🌟
