At the second session of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, 🌏 Chinese President Xi Jinping set out a three-point plan to shape a sustainable and brighter future across the region.
1. Power Up with Digital & Smart Innovation 📈
Xi highlighted how frontier technologies like AI can spark fresh growth. He called for APEC members to treat data as a core resource, fuel open-source collaboration, and build a safe, fair and high-quality digital economy. China also proposed a World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to bridge the digital divide and boost AI literacy.
2. Embrace Green & Low-Carbon Development 🌱
"Clear waters and green mountains are just as valuable as gold," Xi reminded leaders. He urged free flow of green technologies, shared financing and support to tackle climate change. Since announcing carbon peaking and neutrality goals, China has built the world’s largest renewable energy system and funded an APEC sub-fund for digital green transitions.
3. Foster Inclusive & Shared Growth 🤝
Putting people first, Xi stressed cooperation on poverty reduction, small businesses, food and energy security, and health. He praised the Republic of Korea’s Collaborative Framework for Demographic Change and outlined China’s push on full life-cycle services, the silver economy and AI-powered healthcare to benefit all.
"Alone, one falters under the weight; Together, we stride on the road," Xi quoted, inviting all APEC members to embrace innovation, coordination, green practices, openness and shared development for a stronger Asia-Pacific community.
