🏓 WTT Champions Montpellier just got hotter! Third-seeded Wang Yidi of the Chinese mainland, along with standout performers Kim and Franziska, punched their tickets to the thrilling last 16.
Wang kicked things off in style, facing Japan’s Hina Hayata. The first game was a nail-biter. Wang raced to an 8-2 lead before Hayata fought back to 10-10. But Wang stayed clutch, landing a backhand winner to seal the opener 14-12.
From there, Wang turned up the heat. She grabbed the second game 11-7 and dominated the third 11-4. In game four, Wang led 9-6 and wrapped it up 11-6 to secure a 3-1 victory and a spot in the last 16.
I took the lead at the start of every game, but when I was leading, I started to rush. My coach called a time-out and told me to slow down the pace. Generally speaking, I had no problems, except that I did not control the rhythm very well. After I slowed down, I performed well from the second to the fourth games.
It was a day of epic rallies, and with the field now set, fans can expect more heart-pounding action as the tournament moves forward. Stay tuned for the next round! ✨
