At a recent UN Security Council meeting, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative Geng Shuang delivered a clear message: the battle against terrorism must be ramped up, not dialed back🌍.
Geng pointed out that wars and conflicts are popping up around the world, giving terrorist groups fresh openings. “Now more than ever, we need a zero tolerance approach toward terrorism,” he said, urging members to drop geopolitical squabbles and ideological biases that weaken the global front against terror.
He stressed the importance of adapting the counter-terrorism sanctions regime to match today’s challenges. By updating the sanctions network, the UN can tighten the net around terror financiers and operatives✊.
To tackle these threats, China has rolled out two key plans: the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative. These ideas call for teamwork at every level, from big powers to grassroots projects, to prevent and fight terrorism🤝.
Beyond words, China has been helping developing countries—especially in Africa—build their counter-terrorism muscle through training and joint exercises. Geng said China will keep partnering with all nations to fight terrorism in all its forms and contribute to lasting peace🔒.
