China & US ‘Can and Should’ Be Partners, Says VP Han Zheng

Beijing, China — In a warm meeting on Tuesday, the Chinese vice president Han Zheng welcomed Rob Wagner, president of the Oregon State Senate, and underlined that China and the U.S. “can and should” become partners and friends. 🤝

Han Zheng pointed out that both nations share broad common interests and promising cooperation opportunities. He highlighted a series of important consensuses reached between the two leaders during phone talks since the start of the year.

“We hope the U.S. side will work with China in a spirit of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation,” Han said, adding that such collaboration would benefit both countries and the wider world. 🌍

Oregon has a long history of friendly ties with China. Han expressed his wish that Wagner and his fellow senators will keep strengthening communication and people-to-people exchanges, serving as a model for subnational China-U.S. cooperation.

Wagner, in turn, voiced support for the success of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He also noted the importance of U.S.-China cooperation at the subnational level, mentioning that Oregon recently passed a bill to deepen its partnership with China.

This meeting highlights how local leaders on both sides are forging new pathways in international relations, bringing the big-picture diplomacy down to communities and regions. 🌐✨
