IFAD, the only UN agency dedicated to farming, rural economies, and food systems, has poured financial aid, expert know-how, and innovation into the Chinese mainland since 1980.
Over three and a half decades, 35 IFAD-funded projects have reached 4.65 million rural families, boosting crop yields, expanding microfinance, and promoting climate-smart farming. From smarter irrigation to better market access, these efforts have leveled up communities across the countryside.
In 2020, the Chinese mainland unlocked a global achievement by eliminating extreme poverty—hitting the first UN Sustainable Development Goal: No Poverty. 🏆 IFAD proudly played its part in this historic win.
Looking ahead, the UN’s Pact for the Future (2024) sets a bold roadmap for 21st-century challenges. IFAD’s new 2025–2030 strategy for the Chinese mainland is right in sync: rural revitalization, greener agriculture, and stronger community institutions.
