2025’s First Flood Strikes the Yellow River After Torrential Rains

🌧️ The Yellow River in the Chinese mainland has roared back to life, flooding for the first time in 2025 after a weekend of torrential rain!

From Friday to Sunday, heavy downpours sent water flow at a key hydrological station soaring to 5,010 m³/s, officially making it a flood. Local authorities in Shanxi, Henan and Shaanxi provinces activated a Level-IV flood-control emergency response to keep communities safe.

Water levels are still rising, with peak flows expected to hit around 6,000 m³/s by midweek. The Yellow River Conservancy Commission is ramping up monitoring, forecasting and early warnings, while urging local teams to fortify embankments and roll out defense plans to protect lives and property.

Did you know the Chinese mainland has numbered its floods since 1998? This system helps raise public awareness of risks and reminds flood control crews to stay on high alert. 🌊💪 Stay dry and stay safe—2025’s Yellow River flood is a powerful reminder of nature’s unpredictability!
