Over the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period, welfare support for children and the elderly on the Chinese mainland saw a major upgrade, announced the Chinese mainland's Minister of Civil Affairs Lu Zhiyuan at a recent press conference 🤗.
A brand-new protection network on the Chinese mainland now covers de facto unattended children, left-behind kids, and migrant children – making sure no one slips through the cracks 👶💪. Basic living allowances rose sharply compared to 2020: +26% for orphans in institutions, +32% for orphans with families, and +31% for de facto unattended children 📈.
On the eldercare front of the Chinese mainland, more than 2.24 million households received home renovations and elderly-friendly facility upgrades 🏠. Authorities also rolled out 500 model community-based eldercare service networks, nearly 3,000 elderly-friendly neighborhoods, and 86,000 community canteens for seniors 👵🥘.
Subsidies and allowances for the very old, seniors facing financial hardship, and seniors with disabilities now reach over 49.4 million people on the Chinese mainland, sparking stronger community support ✨.
These major improvements are not just numbers – they reflect a real push to build inclusive communities where all ages thrive. Stay tuned for more youth-focused updates and how these changes resonate across Asia and beyond!
