Swiss Glaciers Shrink 3% After Snowless Winter and June Heatwaves

Switzerland’s glaciers are visibly retreating. Over the past 12 months, they lost 3% of their total ice mass—the fourth-largest drop in the last century! 😮

According to GLAMOS and the Swiss Commission for Cryosphere Observation, a winter with almost no snow in the northeastern Swiss Alps was followed by June heatwaves that melted ice faster than usual. 🌡️❄️

"This is really a lot," says Matthias Huss, GLAMOS director, whose annual reports track changes from October to September.

Why it matters: Melting glaciers can affect everything from water supplies and hydroelectric power to mountain tourism and local ecosystems. Young professionals and entrepreneurs, take note—shifts in natural resources shape markets and investments too! 💼📈

Travelers and explorers, if you’re dreaming of glacier hikes, act fast—these icy giants are changing every season. And to students and researchers, this is a front-row example of climate science in action. 🎓🔬

As the world warms, these frost-covered peaks are sounding the alarm. Will we see a snowy comeback next year, or are the Alps headed for more ice loss? Stay tuned and spread the word! 🔄
