“The Song of Youth” first hit bookshelves in the Chinese mainland over six decades ago, instantly striking a chord with young readers. Lin Daojing’s story of passion, hope, and bold activism became a cultural touchstone. Now, Jia Ding’s team wants to honor that legacy while adding modern beats, dazzling choreography, and eye-popping visuals.
Mixing Classic and Contemporary🎶
To keep the story alive, the team blended the novel’s original melodies with edgy pop and hip-hop rhythms. Composer Liu Chen says, “We wanted the music to feel timeless yet current – a bridge between 1930s spirit and today’s playlist.”
Creative Set and Costume Design✨
Set designer Wang Rui drew inspiration from Shanghai’s old streets and propaganda art, then infused neon lights and projection mapping. “It’s a visual feast – think vintage vibes meets futuristic flair,” Wang adds. Costume designer Sun Mei complements the look with bold colors and streetwear twists that let Lin Daojing’s fiery spirit shine.
