🚨 A shocking attack rocked a Mormon church in Michigan on Sunday when a gunman plowed his vehicle into the front doors, unleashed fire with an assault rifle and set the building ablaze.
Police identify the shooter as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, a former U.S. Marine and Iraq war vet from nearby Burton. In just eight minutes after the first 911 call, officers confronted and shot him dead in the church parking lot. 😔
Authorities say the fire raged and thick smoke poured from the church. Two victims died at the scene, eight were rushed to local hospitals, and investigators later discovered at least two more bodies in the charred remains. Community members remain unaccounted for, Chief William Renye warned.
Hundreds of people were inside when the chaos started, according to Renye. Police are now combing through Sanford’s home and phone records to search for a motive behind this horror. 🔍
Shockingly, less than 14 hours earlier, another 40-year-old Marine veteran, Nigel Max Edge from North Carolina, first became a suspect in a separate shooting that left three dead and five wounded.
As questions remain about motive and connections between these two shootings, the community is left grappling with grief and searching for answers. 💔
