Big news from the world of energy! ⚡️ Iran and Russia have just formalized a $25 billion agreement to build four cutting-edge nuclear power units in the Sirik region of Iran's southern Hormozgan province.
The deal – signed at the Iran pavilion during the 2025 World Atomic Week in Moscow – calls for four third-generation reactors, each set to generate about 1,255 megawatts. That's a total of roughly 5,020 megawatts to fuel Iran's power grid with cleaner energy.
Iran Hormoz Company, representing the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), teamed up with Russia's Rosatom Project Company to finalize the project. The ceremony was attended by Iran's ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, adding extra diplomatic flair to the landmark agreement.
One of the biggest nuclear projects in Iran's history, the Sirik plant will span around 500 hectares. With site selection studies wrapped up, engineering plans, environmental assessments and initial groundwork are already rolling ahead.
A special Iranian delegation, led by AEOI chief Mohammad Eslami, flew into Moscow to seal the deal and join the World Atomic Week forum. The event, running Thursday to Sunday, brings together global experts to explore the future of atomic energy.
