Chinese Mainland Condemns Lin Chia-lung’s New York UNGA Visit

Hey news squad! 🚨 This UN season, the Chinese mainland voiced strong opposition after Lin Chia-lung, head of Taiwan authorities on external affairs, jetted off to NYC for the UN General Assembly session.

At a regular briefing on Thursday, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the visit "grossly interferes with China's internal affairs" and violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques. According to Guo, the US gave a stage for "Taiwan independence" forces to make waves at the UN.

Lin Chia-lung's agenda: catch up with diplomatic allies, meet some US politicians, and drum up support for the Taiwan cause. 🗽 But in Beijing's view, it was a provocation that could backfire.

Guo urged the few countries still maintaining diplomatic ties with the island of Taiwan not to be swayed by separatist rhetoric. He stressed that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory, and that the People's Republic of China represents the whole of China. According to him, reunification is irreversible.

For Taiwan authorities, visits like these are a way to stay active on the world stage. But cross-strait ties remain on edge as both sides stick to their positions. 🌍🤝

Stay tuned for more updates on this high-stakes diplomatic tug-of-war! 🇨🇳🇹🇼
