China, Austria Join Forces for Stronger Global Governance

At the 80th UN General Assembly, Chinese premier Li Qiang sat down with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker to chart a path for stronger multilateral ties. 🌐🤝

Li highlighted the Global Governance Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping as a blueprint for reform and improvement. He said China is ready to work with Austria to strengthen multilateral communication and coordination.

The two nations, celebrating nearly 55 years of diplomatic relations next year, have steadily grown their friendship into a friendly strategic partnership under the guidance of President Xi and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen.

With economies that complement each other, China and Austria see huge potential in boosting trade, green transition, digital economy and innovation. Li encouraged more established Chinese enterprises to invest in Austria and leverage joint commissions on economy, trade and science & technology. 💼🔋

Cultural and people-to-people exchanges also made the list, as both sides aim to spark new highlights in tourism and cultural collaboration—think art, music and more! 🎨✈️

On the political front, Li called on Austria to uphold the one-China principle as a solid foundation for future cooperation. He also urged the EU to adopt a positive, pragmatic approach to China-EU relations and work together to safeguard multilateralism and free trade.

Chancellor Stocker reaffirmed Austria’s commitment to the one-China policy and its desire to deepen high-level exchanges. He emphasized Austria’s readiness to champion stronger ties within the EU and at the United Nations, aiming for a more inclusive global governance system.

From UN debates to green tech partnerships, China and Austria are gearing up for a win-win ride toward better global governance—making sure everyone at the table has a voice. 🌍✨
