📢 At a recent UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, Geng Shuang, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized the urgent need to prevent the spillover effects of the Ukraine crisis. 🌍
He highlighted how the conflict is taking a heavy toll on global economic development, especially in developing countries. To keep supply chains running smoothly, Geng called for stronger cooperation on food, energy, finance, trade, and critical infrastructure protection.
🚫 He warned against unilateral sanctions and overreaching legal measures that can bring new challenges instead of political solutions. Instead, he encouraged more dialogue and flexibility among the key parties to bridge differences and seal a lasting, binding peace deal.
🕊️ De-escalation is a top priority. With hostilities still raging—drone and missile attacks on the rise, and arms flowing onto the battlefield—Geng urged all sides to dial back the violence and create conditions for an early end to the fighting.
❤️ The humanitarian dimension can’t be ignored: civilians remain the biggest victims. Geng stressed that parties must follow international humanitarian law, avoid civilian targets and weapons of mass destruction, and boost humanitarian aid to help those affected.
🤝 Since the start of the crisis, China has kept an objective, neutral stance—calling for a ceasefire, backing peace talks, and offering to work with the international community to find a political solution. The goal? An early, lasting peace that benefits everyone. ☮️
