Abbas Calls for Permanent Gaza Ceasefire and Palestinian Authority Control

At the International Conference in New York, President Mahmoud Abbas spoke via video, condemning what he called Israel's 'crimes' and denouncing Hamas' October 7 attack. He demanded a permanent ceasefire and called for the safe delivery of humanitarian aid through the United Nations and UNRWA. 🕊️

Abbas insisted the State of Palestine is the only legitimate authority to govern Gaza after the war. He urged all factions, including Hamas, to hand over their weapons to the Palestinian Authority so the people can rebuild peacefully.

He also asked for the release of hostages and prisoners, withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the start of rehabilitation in Gaza and the West Bank. To pave the way for real change, Abbas pledged presidential and parliamentary elections within a year of the war's end, plus a provisional constitution in the first three months.

Expressing gratitude to nations recognizing Palestine, Abbas urged others to do the same and support full UN membership. Finally, he called Israel back to the negotiation table to stop the bloodshed and achieve a just and comprehensive peace. 🤝🏼
