Guterres: Two-State Solution the Only Way to Middle East Peace

Picture this: a world where Israelis and Palestinians live side by side as neighbors, not enemies. According to UN chief Antonio Guterres, that dream hinges on one key idea: the two-state solution 🕊️.

Speaking at a UN press conference, Guterres made it clear: "We absolutely must do everything—and quickly—to ensure two states prevail." He challenged skeptics with a simple question: What’s the alternative? A one-state system that strips people of basic rights? Mass displacement in the 21st century? Totally unacceptable.

Without two sovereign states, Guterres warned, there will be no real peace in the Middle East. Instead, extremism could spread with “extremely, extremely negative” consequences around the globe 🌍.

He also pushed back on the idea that recognizing a Palestinian state would be “a gift to Hamas.” On the contrary, Guterres said, it’s a gift to the many innocent Palestinians who have suffered under years of conflict.

His comments came just a day after Israel launched a massive ground offensive in Gaza City, underscoring the urgent need for a clear path to peace.

Last Friday, the UN General Assembly took a step forward by approving a resolution supporting the New York Declaration for the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution. For Guterres, that resolution is a starting point—now it’s time for action.
