Utah Governor: Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect Refuses to Talk

Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that the suspect in the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk is keeping quiet. Tyler Robinson, 22, has not cooperated with authorities since his arrest, he said on the ABC This Week program.

Robinson is set to face formal charges on Tuesday and remains in custody near Salt Lake City. Officials are now turning to those close to him to uncover a motive, talking to friends and family about his recent behavior.

One key witness is Robinsons roommate, described by the FBI as a trans woman, who has been incredibly cooperative, according to Cox. The governor noted that investigators are piecing together shell casings and forensic evidence as they dig deeper.

The shooting happened at a Turning Point USA event in Orem, about 65 kilometers south of Salt Lake City, where Kirk was killed by a single rifle shot in front of some 3,000 attendees. Kirk, a vocal Trump ally, co-founded the conservative student group and drew both fierce support and sharp criticism for his rhetoric.

Cox told NBC that Robinson grew up in a deeply conservative family but held very different beliefs. State records show he was a registered voter with no party affiliation, yet he became more political in recent years and had expressed dislike for Kirk.

The killing sparked outrage across the US, with leaders on both sides condemning political violence. Cox blamed social media for fueling extremist views, saying it has played a role in every assassination or attempt over the last five years.

A memorial for Kirk will be held on September 21 in Glendale, Arizona, organizers announced. As the case moves forward, investigators hope that interviews with Robinsons inner circle will finally shed light on why he carried out the attack.

Stay tuned for more updates as the story develops.
