At the WTT Champions Macao in China’s Macao SAR, Sun Yingsha 😎 made a strong statement by defeating Romania’s Bernadette Szocs 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9 to reach the quarterfinals. The world No. 1 wasted no time in the first game, racing to a 5-0 lead and closing it out 11-5.
Szocs fought back in Game 2, leveling at 5-5 and then seizing the match point to tie things up 1-1. But Sun returned with focus and flair, taking Game 3 with a 5-1 run and sealing it 11-7. In the fourth, despite a late surge from Szocs, Sun held her nerve to win 11-9 and book her spot in the last eight 🏓🔥.
Up next for the 24-year-old champion is a quarterfinal clash with Puerto Rico’s Adriana Diaz, who upset China’s Wang Yidi in a surprise win. “My coach reminded me to stay patient and build points one by one,” Sun said after the match. “That break between games helped me reset and finish strong.”
In other action, China’s Wang Manyu came from behind to edge Japan’s Hina Hayata 3-2 and will face home hope Zhu Yuling in the quarters.
