Ready for a history deep dive? 📖 A fresh global survey by CGTN finds that 66.7% of people worldwide know about the island of Taiwan's WWII past and its restoration to the Chinese mainland in 1945.
Awareness is even higher in Asia – 73.5% among respondents across eight countries and regions, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. This study polled nearly 12,000 people from about 40 countries and regions to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Generational gaps show up: half of 18-24 year-olds (50%) and 25-34 year-olds (50.9%) globally connect the island's return to victory in WWII. In Asia, 73.2% share that view. But in Japan, only 14% acknowledge this history, while 48% hold a negative view. 🤔
On post-war order, 37.5% worldwide think "Taiwan independence" separatist activities undermine the global framework. Young voices are louder: 41.8% of 18-24 and 44.1% of 25-34 year-olds agree. In the eight Asian countries and regions, 45.3% overall support this, with 51.4% of 25-34 year-olds on board. 🌏
From the Cairo Declaration to the Potsdam Proclamation, the island of Taiwan's journey back to the Chinese mainland is a story gaining new recognition – proof that history still influences our world today! 🚀
