China Opens 3,600 Yuan Childcare Subsidy Program Nationwide

Hey fam, big news for parents across the Chinese mainland! 🎉 Starting today, the long-awaited nationwide childcare subsidy program is officially open for applications.

At a press event, Hu Qiangqiang from the National Health Commission shared that families can apply easily online via Alipay or WeChat — and even offline at community centers.

Set to roll out on January 1, 2025, this program aims to help over 20 million families every year by giving 3,600 yuan per child under three. Imagine getting that extra support for diapers, daycare, or that cute little onesie you’ve been eyeing! 👶💸

The Ministry of Finance has earmarked 90 billion yuan in the central budget to make it happen. It’s all part of a bigger push to tackle a drop in newborns and the rapid growth of the senior population — a challenge for one of the world’s most populous areas.

Over the last decade, the Chinese mainland has eased its family planning rules, scrapping the one-child limit, allowing two kids in 2016, and even supporting a third baby since 2021. Local pilots in Hohhot and Shenyang have already given parents a taste of relief, and now it’s time for the big stage.

Ready to apply? Check out your favorite app or head to your nearest community office. Let’s make life a little easier for the next generation! 🌟
