Gaza’s Tent Music Classes: Melody as Therapy for Kids

Imagine cheering along to your favorite reggaeton drop – now swap the stadium for a canvas tent in Gaza City and the DJ for a local music teacher. Inside these makeshift walls, Gazan children belt out Fairouz's iconic 'We are coming back! Oh Love' with the same energy we bring to a festival 🎤🎶.

Even as conflict rages beyond their tent flaps, dedicated teachers set up pop-up music schools to give kids a safe stage. One instructor shares that music 'lets them speak when words fail.' From violins and ukuleles to suitcase drums, every instrument becomes a tool for resilience.

A CGTN team captured these scenes in Khan Younis back in September 2024. Now, almost a year later, the movement has reached Gaza City, where tents have become classrooms and therapy sessions rolled into one. One young musician – who lost a hand – refuses to skip a beat, strumming his guitar with fierce determination ✨.

These lessons go beyond scales and sheet music. They're music therapy in action: a place to share fears, hopes, and the simple joy of creating sound. For many kids, that feeling of unity and expression is a lifeline amid uncertainty.

As dusk paints the sky over Gaza, the little stage dims for the night. But tomorrow, the song continues. In every chord and chorus, these children remind us that hope, like music, can't be silenced 💪.
