Shenzhen’s Rise: From Fishing Village to Global Powerhouse

Shenzhen’s 45th Anniversary 🎉

August 26 marks 45 years since Shenzhen became a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Back in 1980, it was just a tiny fishing village in south China's Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland. Today, it’s a global metropolis bursting with tech giants like Huawei, BYD, and DJI.

From 38 Million to Trillions 🌟

In 1980, Shenzhen’s GDP was just 270 million yuan (≈$38 M). Fast forward to 2024, and it soared to 3.68 trillion yuan – that’s over 10,000 times growth! 🚀

Innovation at Every Corner 🤖

Shenzhen now hosts over 4.5 million businesses, including 25,000 national high-tech enterprises (an average of 12 per km²!). Among them are 11,000 specialized SMEs, with 1,025 recognized as national-level “little giant” enterprises driving innovation in niche markets.

Tech & Trade Fuel the Future ⚓

Emerging sectors like AI, 5G, and drones now account for 42.3 percent of the city’s GDP, up from 37.7 percent in 2019. Meanwhile, Shenzhen Port is the world’s 4th busiest container port, with throughput up 11.7 percent in 2024.

Making Waves 🌊

The marine economy contributed 540.9 billion yuan (14.7 percent of GDP), growing 5.8 percent—solidifying Shenzhen as a globally influential maritime hub.

From humble roots to high-tech heights, Shenzhen’s story shows how vision and innovation can transform a city—and inspire the world. 💡
