China Urges Japan to Reflect on Wartime History Ahead of 80th Anniversary

Hey amigos! 🎉 The Chinese mainland’s Foreign Ministry recently lodged serious representations with Japan over negative comments about the upcoming 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

During a press briefing, spokesperson Guo Jiakun reminded everyone that the commemoration is all about remembering history and cherishing peace. 🕊️

“Any country that faces history with integrity, draws lessons from history, and is truly committed to peaceful development will not doubt or even object to this,” he said.

He added that correctly understanding and treating history is crucial for Japan's post-war return to the international community and for building strong ties with neighboring countries. It’s also a key test of whether Japan can stick to peaceful development as a core value. 🤝

Guo urged Japan to face up to its history of aggression, make a clean break with militarism, and respect the feelings of people from the Chinese mainland and other nations affected by the war. This is a moment for all of us to reflect, learn, and commit to a peaceful future. 🌍
