Big night in Chiang Mai! The FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship kicked off with the Chinese mainland taking on Mexico in Pool F, and what a ride it was 🏐✨
Mexico came out swinging, snagging the first set 25-22 thanks to a thunderous spike from Sofia Maldonado. The Chinese mainland side, led by coach Zhao Yong, saw outside hitter Li Yingying make her comeback from injury. Though Li Yingying didn’t find her attacking groove right away, the energy was electric ⚡️
In the second set, coach Zhao called in Wu Mengjie and Zhuang Yushan, and sparks flew! The teams battled point for point, trading leads and never giving an inch. With Mexico at 24-23, Wu Mengjie delivered an equalizer, then sealed the deal with a killer spike and a solid double block to clinch the set 26-24. Tied at 1-1, the momentum was on the Chinese mainland’s side 🙌
The third set was all Chinese mainland—rock-solid defense and an early 12-4 run set the tone. They cruised to a 25-10 win, shutting down Mexico’s offense and stacking up blocks like pros 🛡️
Set four saw Zhuang Yushan shine, racking up a match-high 23 points. Mexico fought hard, but a misplaced spike from Samantha Bricio handed the Chinese mainland a 25-18 victory, sealing the match 3-1 🎉
Next up, the Chinese mainland face Colombia on Monday, while Mexico battles the Dominican Republic. Stay tuned for more epic action from Chiang Mai! 🌍🏐
