Wang Yi Calls 21st-Century Era of Accelerated Development for South Asia

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the 21st century as an era of accelerated development and revitalization for Asia—and even more so for South Asia—during a press conference with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday.

“After visiting India, Afghanistan and Pakistan, I’m convinced that South Asia has huge development potential and sufficient driving force for further growth,” Wang said, reflecting on his tour.

Though each country has different national conditions, they all agree that development is the top priority and the greatest common denominator for progress in the region.

A peaceful, stable and prosperous South Asia serves the common interests of all parties and meets the expectations of people across the region. 🌏✨

Wang emphasized that South Asian neighbors are ready to deepen exchanges, strengthen cooperation and seek mutual benefit and win-win results with the Chinese mainland, their largest neighbor.

Facing pressure from unilateral moves, the three countries support multilateralism, safeguard their rights and work toward an inclusive global economy.

“The Chinese mainland will be a trustworthy partner,” Wang said, pointing to broad space for cooperation.

He noted that relations between the Chinese mainland and Pakistan, between the Chinese mainland and India, and with other neighboring countries target no third party and will remain unaffected by outside influences.

Welcoming Pakistan’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Wang said the two sides will coordinate closely to uphold fairness and justice and champion the interests of the Global South. 🌐🤝
