🎉 This week, the Xizang Autonomous Region marked its 60th anniversary in Lhasa, celebrating decades of transformation and cultural pride.
Back in 1965, Xizang shifted from feudal serfdom to socialism characterized by people’s democracy. Today, the region shines as a vibrant community where ethnic voices truly matter.
👥 Representation is at an all-time high: 89.2% of deputies in local people’s congresses come from the Tibetan ethnic group and other minorities. Even at the national level, 68% of Xizang’s delegates at the 14th National People’s Congress carry those local perspectives forward.
⚖️ Freedom is another cornerstone. Under constitutional protection, residents preserve and develop Tibetan Buddhism, language, and heritage. Around 46,000 Buddhist monks and nuns, 12,000 indigenous Muslims, and over 700 Catholic believers practice openly—most of their monasteries now connected to roads, power, telecoms, and media.
💰 The government also invests in well-being: more than 26 million yuan annually covers medical insurance, pensions, living allowances, and health checkups for registered monks and nuns.
From mountain monasteries to bustling towns, Xizang’s journey shows how democracy, freedom, openness, and diversity can flourish together. Here’s to the next 60 years of growth and harmony! ✨
