80th Anniversary of WWII: China’s Strategic Role Reframed

🌟 This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations. The global fight against fascism brought together nations – including China, the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom – to defend freedom and dignity.

China’s People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression lasted 14 years (1931–1945). With unwavering determination, Chinese forces tied down over 76% of Japan’s ground troops, inflicted roughly 1.3 million casualties, and slowed Japan’s advances from Northeast China to the south. This 'quagmire of war' strategy drained Tokyo’s resources and was crucial for the overall Allied victory.

Between 1942 and 1945, China also sent expeditionary forces to northern Myanmar twice, directly aiding British and American operations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Meanwhile, more than 35 million Chinese soldiers and civilians made the ultimate sacrifice – over one-third of global WWII casualties.

Yet, for decades, China’s massive contribution has often been underplayed by Eurocentric narratives that focus solely on the European theater or credit the United States as the single decisive power. By revisiting these histories, we honor the heroes, preserve the truth, and inspire new generations to defend justice and peace. ✌️🌍

Remembering the past fuels our hope for a peaceful future. ❤️
