Raging Rain & Typhoons Strike the Chinese Mainland’s Flood-Control Season

The Chinese mainland has been hit by scattered yet severe downpours during this year's critical flood-control period (July 16 to August 15). The Ministry of Water Resources reports that 330 rivers rose above warning levels, with 77 exceeding safety thresholds and 22 reaching record highs. 😮💧

To tackle these challenges, the ministry activated a Level-III emergency response three times and a Level-IV response on 12 occasions, rolling out targeted defense measures each time. In addition, 37 expert teams have been dispatched to guide local authorities and support affected communities.

Adding to the drama, three typhoons made landfall—each striking twice—and impacted 13 provincial-level regions, one more typhoon than the historical average for this period. 🌪️🌊

Officials warn that the main flood season is still underway and that more extreme weather events could be on the way. Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on local alerts, prepare emergency kits, and follow safety guidelines. Cooperation between authorities, experts, and communities remains key to weathering what could be a challenging season.
